Community Archeology Lab (CAL) was formed to provide an open framework for communicating archeological perspectives that can enhance our understanding of the past while serving the communities in which we live and work. Using an 'archeology-as-tool’ approach, CAL builds coalitions with university students, tribal communities, and stakeholders to cultivate awareness and appreciation for sociocultural diversity. The goal of the lab is to inform, train, and educate undergraduate and graduate students at California State University Northridge who desire to learn and share. We primarily focus on the heritage of the San Fernando Valley, the greater Los Angeles area, and Ventura County—places we call home. CAL expands its mission beyond the local community to encourage open communication of archaeology and heritage spaces through blogs, email links, and more.
