Kaitlin M. Brown Ph.D.
Kaitlin Brown (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor at California State University Northridge. She specializes in historical archaeology in North America with a special research focus on community formation, public archaeology, and the socio-politics of archaeological practice today. Her work primarily centers on Indigenous-colonial interactions and has expanded to encompass diverse forms of historical migration, all within the context of ongoing settler colonialism. Grounded in activist and socially responsible archaeology, Dr. Brown's approach seeks to address the ethical dimensions of heritage work, using methods like community-based participatory research (CBPR), low-impact archaeology, and ethnography to prioritize collaboration, inclusivity, and social justice. Through these frameworks, she aims to advance an archaeology where the past meets the present.
